ANNIE MOSCOW
Poet/Pianist/Singer/Songwriter

Whimsical. Daring. Poignant and Powerful.

Annie Moscow is a contemporary poet and modern-day songwriter who brings a fresh perspective to subject matter not often sung about. With an explosive piano style and the voice of an angel, her very visual songs take you right into the picture.

Originally from New York, then Philadelphia, Los Angeles and now, Arizona, she began her music career as a classical pianist, and then as a songwriter, writing for film, television and other recording artists, including SARAH VAUGHN, SISTER SLEDGE and MICKEY MOUSE.

In 1992, she wrote the lyrics to Kathy Sledge's hit single, "All of My Love". In 2007, she was a co-writer on Disney's top selling audio Halloween card "They Don't Scare Me".

In 2001, Annie Moscow stepped out as a solo artist with the release of her first CD, "Wolves at My Door" about the midlife shattering of illusions. The WASHINGTON POST wrote: "Annie Moscow is breaking all of the rules."

In 2007, she released her second CD, with “Visible.”

This summer she will be performing her first one-woman show of all original music, stories and poetry: "The Philosophical Musings of a Suburban Dwelling Free Spirit Ex-Hippi Wannabe with Longings for Connection and Security", at the Herberger Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.

PRESS QUOTES

WOW! What marvelous music and energy!
8/2007 Fiddlers Dream Coffeehouse

I’m not sure what to call her music, it’s not remotely mainstream, but accessible all the same.
She has a lovely voice and her imaginative songs really deserve getting heard.
9/07 Collected Sounds Women in Music

“Annie Moscow and Steve Gold are each gifted with exceptional voices and musical expertise. When they perform together, their combined talents go right to right to the center of your heart and soul with the precision of a skilled surgeon, the grace of angels in flight and the beauty of a desert sunrise. It’s not just a concert, but a soul-stirring experience that’s not to be missed!”
Jenny Dickason, Muffi Bindi Productions 4/2003

The evocative song stylings of Annie Moscow bring to mind the bittersweet lyrics of Jacque Brel. Anne Owens, GLENDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY

“Annie Moscow plays the piano beautifully and has a great talent for songwriting. Her music is thoughtful, emotionally complex and mature. Her range is dazzling. The more I listen to this music the more I discover. This is a keeper.”
Anna Maria Stjarnell, COLLECTED SOUNDS WOMEN IN MUSIC 8/2001

“Not just another ‘girl with guitar’ - Poet and pianist Annie Moscow, who’s been dubbed the “female Billy Joel” - recently released her debut disc, “Wolves at My Door”. Moscow’s songs span the spectrum from the delicate, impressionistic “Dried Up and Dying” to the rollicking, in-your-face “Buy The Bitch a Cadillac.” Lori Ann Daley of Scottsdale was one of many in attendance at Moscow’s February show at the Kerr Cultural Center. “She’s just an incredible performer. She’s got a great voice and her music is so mature. I hope we see a lot more of her. Daley pauses for a moment. ‘It won’t be right if she doesn’t make it.” from “Whatever Happened to Women in Rock?” Story by: Adrienne Frank. THE TRIBUNE/GetOut 4/2001

“Hers is a singular voice, both in its soaring resonance and in its poignant perspective, a rarity in a musical environment that champions teen queens and bitter babes... It’s fair to say Wolves at My Door is a howling success. ”
Lee Zimmerman, GOLDMINE, 2/9/2001

“Moscow’s passionate vocal and piano style create a powerful listening experience. Her style will remind you of Tori Amos or Fiona Apple, but will stay fresh in your memory, with haunting lyrics and solid songs. Moscow is an original.”
Borders Books & Music 10/2000

“Annie’s phenomenal. She’s one of my favorites. She’s smart and talented and tells it like it is.”
Robin A. Sellar, VisionQuest Productions

“Completely enthralling. She’s naked at the edge of a cliff.”
Gavan Wieser, Musician (“One Foot In the Grave”)

WHAT FANS SAY

“She’s a thinking-person’s musician - entertainment for the spiritual, thinking person.”

“Her music must be listened to - it’s not for ‘happy hour’.”

“There’s a lot of professional showmanship/Broadway in Annie Moscow’s music. It’s very unique. It isn’t Broadway, but “hints” at Broadway.”

“Her music has an edginess that you don’t find in other people, but it’s not a “confrontational” edginess”

“She yanks open closed closet doors of our minds, forcing us to remove some old dusty though patterns, situations that we thought were unique, but realizing we are not alone in what we’re looking at.”

“Very entertaining!”

“Great musicianship - a unique blend of classical & pop, every song is different!”

“Her lyrics are intelligent and funny, and take you somewhere”

“When Annie Moscow performs, she makes me feel open and raw, because she taps something way inside - the music, the feeling, watching her perform - I can see her feeling, and I see this is a woman who has been through life - all of it, the good, the bad, and she’s overcome it and worked through it.” When I watch her, I can hear & feel every aspect of strengths & weaknesses” - very cathartic - I go there with her. “

“Her poetry hits hard. She says what many other people feel, but don’t ever say.”

“She’s smart & funny & tell it like it is.”
